My new "Vintage Look" Road Race GT Corvette

Post by Bosco » Tue Aug 06, 2013 10:51 am

I was going to build a Mustang TA2 powered by an LS1, but have decided to sell the Stang body and build the one I always wanted to do. A tube frame C3 reminiscent of the Owens Corning L88's. It will use a square tube design similar to the one Woody at Bemco Fab built for my C6 racer.

I will probably use a carbureted LS/LQ motor with at least 600 HP, a Jerico 4 speed and Speedway Eng. 9" Grand National Floater rear end. Penske coilovers, Brembo Nascar calipers and SWEET rack. I like the CCW Classic wheels in 18x12 that will allow me to use the Grand Am Conti's or the World Challlenge Pirelli's. Should be about 2500 # w/o driver.

This looks like the perfect car to run in NASA outlaw vintage.

It can run in SCCA as SPO or even GT-1 with an iron block motor (it just won't be competitive). HSR will find a place for it as well as PBOC. I am not aware of NASA outlaw vintage, but will check it out.

It will be fast enough and fun, that is what I am looking for.

I just started to run this class and it is a blast. V1 is unlimited and the ONLY rule is that the car has to be more than 25 years old. V2-v4 are based on power to weight ratio. V1 cars are highly modified while v2-v4 are modified to period correct. Running NASA has been really enjoyable, kinda reminds me of SCCA when I started racing 25 years ago.

The next race is Road Atlanta the weekend of Sept 15th. You should stop by and check it out.

You can get more info at http://outlaw-vintage-racing.com/

Thanks for the link, Joe...sounds interesting.

I have a Howe Trans Am 2 front clip at the shop and may use that. That would make it easy for replacement should it ever get knocked off, plus the Howe spindles, A frames etc will be an easy bolt on and always available at very affordable prices.

Thanks Krys, It will likely take a year to complete. I should stop this madness...but can't seem to!

Dave Bacher is restoring an old BP/GT-1 Vette, this is the hardtop he got from Peter Klutt. It has the convertible hatch molded in. Kerry Hitt is again making the C3 L88 type race bodies.
