I'd think the initial impact should be a prompt doubling of his prices for a race-ready car by Tony Ave which he can then offer as a bargain to Regional drivers rushing out with their checkbooks to pick up a Gallardo or 458. :)

Clearly, I have NO first hand clue about FIA GT3 cars. But that's never stopped me before ...

Google-fo produced this site: http://gt3europe.com/cars.php

If this is to be believed, the GT3 cars have in the neighborhood of 550hp and weigh about 2500-2600 lbs.

So .... they should be no competition for a front running GT1 car.

Take a look at World Challenge GT classes. They have been running the FIA GT3 cars there all season and a few teams are well sorted with them. seem to be fairly competitive with the regular GT cars fairly early in the season as Effort Racing is running a Porsche GT3 R and has been on the podium a few times this season in both cars running GT-Pro (Tim Bergmeister) and GT-Am (Michael Mills)

Actually .... it's closer than I thought.

The GT1 lap record at Road America is 2:07.594 by Doug Peterson on 6/15/ 2013
At the WC race this year the fastest lap was 2:08.216 by Mike Skeen in an Audi R8.

It might not be as close as you think. The unanswered question is what might the RA record be if Mike Skeen drove there in a first-class GT1 car?

T/A pole the same day as Skeen's W/C race time @ R/A was 2:05.3.
Can't wait to see a GT1 Bentley show up....

The difference is in the 4 to 5 second range, driver for driver, etc.

The Trans Am times these days are handicapped to the tune of about 1 second or so given the tires we now run as opposed to the Goodyear 430's of the previous years. Add running softer 250's in nationals and you gain another second. This difference would be apprximately matched by the best tires a GT3 car could use.

I tested in the 02's at Road America on 250's, and have tested a couple GT3 variants for some clients in the 07's. But on tires other than the WC spec version.

If you look at a more representative club level GT3 effort such as Jeff Courtney, he qualified at the Sprints at a 2:12.

As to what Skeen runs in good TA cars, usually about .5 second slower than me. Right Mike :)

I test the Vipers for SRT before they go to the customers, and 459K seems expensive but there are a ton of electronics that are worth the money if gadgets are your thing.

Half a million dollars for a Viper GT3?!?!?! Cheese and crackers!!! 8) I knew the Audi was spendie, but ....

That number reminds us of what a terrific value an SCCA GT tube car is compared to most any other option with similar performance.

FWIW: I think this is a great idea. Its adds some bling to the grid and it hurts no one. We should all be keeping an eye out for existing series of cars that can be fit into existing GT classes.
