GT2 Aero Changes

Post by Leroy » Mon Apr 09, 2018 9:54 am

I thought the new aero rules for GT2 were supposed to take affect in March. Yesterday while in impound at T-Hill, the tech team was randomly checking items and were using last years rules. I asked them about why they were not using the new package specifications. They didn't seem to be aware of the fast track changes and essentially dismissed me as the car met last years specs (I was driving a friends TA2 Camaro); however, if I was there in the Tiger I would have flunked with my new bigger splitter (unfortunately the Camaro no longer had its splitter).

Are we not under the new areo rules at this time?

For some reason tech as a whole was lacking this past weekend at T'Hill. We experienced some issues too, where they did not know the GCR very well. Still, they are Volunteers, and we do appreciate what they do and could not race without them.

In my instances, I took the Tech Chief aside and politely (as polite as I can be on Raceday) informed him of what I perceived as wrong and he took it under advisement. All was good.

I had the same type of issue at Mid-Oh last weekend. Tech guys pulled me to the side to inform, me I was "not allowed to have vents in the back window" GT-2 rules clearly state 24 Sq In. of vents in the rear window in the Authorized Modification section of the GT-2 rules. I appreciate what these volunteers do but if they are going to tell a driver they are in violation of the GCR you would think they would make sure they know what they are talking about.

... well at least they pulled you aside and told you instead of handing you the penalty for being non-compliant and forcing you to explain yourself afterwards...

Well It appears that the new Aero stuff was just published in the updated JUNE GCR. I guess it was a little late? Always best to print out the fast track on a new rule and have it with you. As a tech Person I do my best to stay up to speed but that's impossible for every class.
