FORUM CLOSING DEADLINE

Post by kgrammer » Tue Jun 05, 2018 9:32 am

When I took over the forum over a decade ago I was active in GT racing as a series owner. Running the forum aligned with my interests.

In recent years my interests have shifted. The forum really needs to be run by someone with an active passion for GT racing.

The forum will be closed on September 30, 2018.

The forum is getting virtually NO new traffic, yet it is demanding daily management to keep the third world spammers at bay.

With this said, I will be moving the forum timeline forward and will closing the forum at the end of this month.

It's been fun, but clearly it is time to but the tired "BBS" to rest.

As always, if you know someone who would like to take over the forum (and it's accompanying Facebook group page), you know where to find me.

Thanks for all the efforts, Ken. I pretty much agree with you at this point-- with as little traffic as the site gets, there are better ways to spend your time.

Ken, what does it take to maintain the site as is? How internet savy do you need to be? Does it require DAILY maintenance? Is there a cost?

Chuck,

LAMP-stack experience is required so if you don't know what that means, you would have to pay someone to provide that capability for you.

You need experience with phpBB and how to log in to the server and maintain the forum, update the forum code when new releases are provided and perform database basckups to secure the site.

The forum requires daily maintenance to deal with the onslaught of spam bots attempting to hack the board. When you run your own servers, you realize quickly just how big the off-shore hacking problems are. It's definitely not fake news at the server hacking level.

You have to pay for a server hosting and management if you don't have that experience.

Ken

I reluctantly have to agree that this forum has lost its support and is no longer viable.

Thanks for the ten years of support

Terry
